Barbet puppies make their first Photoshoot appearance

This past weekend I worked on a very special inspiration shoot with the finest talent the Midwest Wedding Industry has to offer. I won’t go too much into the specifics as that’s more of www.stacyable.com/blog stuff, but I have to share some frames from the brief appearance of my 3.5 week old Barbet puppies.

Shake it like a… Barbet?

I’ve been pretty preoccupied lately with weddings, house work, and heaps of life so it’s been hard for me to focus on blogging. Well, these last couple weeks as you’ll see in previous posts, we’ve been taking Isis and now Cleo out to the lake in Columbus, Indiana for dock dogs practice. Isis is becoming stronger and stronger in her swimming, and my sweet Cleo is somewhat jumping in after the toy.

This last visit I brought my new 70-200 NR II Nikkor lens as to practice high speed photography. My French Water Dogs aka Barbet Cleo and Isis did not disappoint with the myriad of photo opportunities they presented me. The ones I will share right now are my particular favorites as to see a dog shake in slow motion is priceless. Below you can enjoy Barbet Cleo getting her shake on.

Barbet World Travels

These past two weeks I have been roaming Holland and France mostly for Barbet purposes and a dash of tourism thrown in for good measure. This past weekend I visited Henk and Walda of Von Der Leibrucke. I had a great time meeting all of their Barbet as well as their Rottweiler’s. Walda introduced me to speculaas crunchy which I will have to buy and bring home. Then we went on a journey to Koekange to have their Rottweiler and Barbet Cousteau’s image taken by the veritable David Dalton. It was great to see another photographer work whose animal photos are world renown. David even took a photo of me which I’m not a huge fan of having my photo taken (photographer irony) but I’m sure it’ll be nice and great to preserve that I was once young!

In honor of Easter, my husband bought me an Ostrich egg as I had a hair brained idea of getting photos of our recent Barbet puppies being “hatched” from an egg. I probably waited a tad too long to do this shoot but two pups put up with it (although they were giving us dirty looks during the photo taking process).

Barbet Puppies in America: week 4 of life

Raising puppies can be such a joyous time but also a pretty strenuous time as cleaning is never ending and every day you should introduce something new to the babies. Our American Barbet puppies are now 4 weeks old and their canine’s are coming in nicely. Their eyes are turning from blue to hazel/brown of which they will eventually stay a amber brown color. We’ve begun weaning as for us we feel 4 weeks they should be introduced to soft puppy food and lessen their reliance on mom’s milk. They still nurse but hopefully in the next couple of weeks they’ll be done nursing (good thing as their puppy teeth are sharp!) and happy frolicking and eating their mushy puppy food.

Last week we took some easter inspired photos with the Barbet puppies. I had my husband, and hand model (he isn’t fond of his photo taken but will allow me to photograph his hands) with the puppies. He changed shirts for each puppy in various soft easter shades. Then he gave me a large ostrich egg to get some puppy hatching photos. That process didn’t go as well as I’d hoped as the puppies are already bigger then the egg so lesson learned for the next litter.

Cinna, Walter, and I: Trash the Dress Barbet Style

In the fall, my husband and I had some casual family photos done as the fall light, trees, and color on our land is perfect for photos. Since I’m a midwest wedding photographer, I wanted to do a mini trash the dress session as our ’08 nuptials in Guatemala were glorious but I’ve always been itching to do a trash the dress. So we donned our wedding attire and I couldn’t resist getting some shots with Cinna, my big french happy Barbet.

So my Barbet were dressed up in Halloween costumes. I can’t be held entirely accountable as after a long weekend of photographing two weddings I came home to find my crew dressed up as a pumpkin, vw van, lady bug, devil, and hot dog. The costumes all fit their personalities especially Cinna as the VW van. He’s me super mellow, happy, goofy French guy.

Barbet Tug in New York City

This past week I’ve been in NYC for a shoot and I was able to visit Tracey and Tug who live in Hoboken. We met up in lower Manhattan and I followed this gorgeous boy around taking photos. Today we are heading to a dog friendly beach so I can photograph Tug and Chewy swimming in the Hudson.

Oh and a photo of my latest food obsession macarons which are French like Tug!

Happy fall from American Barbet

It’s SO gorgeous right now! I’m swamped with work so I have little time to enjoy and photograph my pack but this morning was too beautiful to pass up. The crisp cool air, the golden orange leaves, and a good patch of sunrise light streaming through the autumn trees was beyond beautiful. All I had to do was hold the frisbee up high and most of my Barbet sat or stood in the beautiful light. Hope you all are enjoying the weather now and taking lots of walks with your pooches or loved ones!

Barbet love leftovers

It’s a pretty hectic month here in Indiana at American Barbet head quarters. I have 8 weddings coming up to photograph and a cookbook photography project which entails 100 recipes I have to cook, test, and photograph. Our happy Barbet clan is wondering what is going on with all the commotion in the kitchen and in my product photography studio. After the recipes have been photographed most of the food is given to neighbors but some recipes the dogs get to taste test. A recipe for Tapioca was the latest devoured by our crew. Here you can see Barbet Lia head first in the pan.
