Seattle Barbet Harry makes the “Dogs of Microsoft” Calendar

Every year Harry’s owner, Carolynn, enters Harry in the “Dogs of Microsoft” calendar competition. Harry had an honorable mention last year but this year he WON a feature in one of the 2012 Calendar months!

A photo will accompany his “bio” that had to be “50 – 70 words.” Carolynn submitted this below for his Bio:

Harry is a Barbet. All but lost during the World Wars, this smart French breed is the predecessor to the Poodle and was traditionally a hunter’s assistant or sailor’s companion. Harry delights in ”informing” the family when people walk by his home, sleeping in, ice cubes, carrots, dog parks, dinghy rides ashore after a long day’s sail, and most of all, spending time with family.

The calendar competition a fund raiser for Summit Assistance Dogs which trains therapy dogs. I can’t wait for a copy from Carolynn as I’ll add it to the fridge along side Harry’s puppy photo that was on a poster benefiting the local Columbus, Indiana Dog Park.

Cleo’s Barbet Puppy C Names and Photos

Cleo’s Barbet puppies now have their kennel names! Their names start with a C as we are following the alphabet for our litter order. The theme is places and every C name corresponds with a city, state, or country. Also, I finally had a chance to get some updated photos of the babies. More will come in the weeks to follow.

A different kind of dog show

In the last year we’ve taken local agility and rally o classes with our Barbet Lia and Isis. We’ve met quite a few really nice dog trainers, handlers, and fellow dog enthusiasts who share our love for canines. My Rally O trainer has Australian shepherds and it’s amazing how obedient yet still happy and playful they are.

This morning my Rally trainer sent me a funny dog show parody that shows how smart dogs really are. The dog show world sometimes for us can be all too serious and the humor and joy of this video makes us wish dogs shows had a bit of this comical element.

Barbet Lia welcomes us home

After photographing a gorgeous Appalachian whimsical wedding in Andrews, North Carolina, we couldn’t wait to get home and pick up our Barbet Lia, who was staying at our in laws. Knowing how excited she’d be we had our flip video on deck to capture her glee.

Introducing the new generation of Barbet flushing, hunting, and retrievers: Guinness Barbochos! She is the daughter of the beautiful Barbet huntress, Bibiche. I own Bibiche’s brother from a year younger, Cinna, as well as Guinness’s brother Murphy! I hope one day some of my puppies can follow in Aunt Bibiche’s beautiful Barbet foot steps.

I resisted doing this for awhile, but with how social the world is now with the world wide web/facebook/twitter, I finally created a facebook fanpage for American Barbet. This way for those who may be on facebook alot (that would be me) you’ll get American Barbet updates in your facebook feed. Not sure I’ll ever got to twitter as I’m already on there for my photography business (twitter.com/stacyablephoto).

Barbet Bibiche in Quebec earns her CKC WCI ribbon

Barbet, Bibiche di Barbochos Reiau de Prouvenco had DONE IT AGAIN!! The lovely brown Barbet beauty and her proud owners Jacques and Pierrette Cyr, report on August 26, 2011, Bibiche earned her CKC WCI at the Ontario Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club. She is the first Barbet in Quebec and in Canada to succeed in this feat. This just goes to show that all our Barbet can be excellent retrievers.

Jacques is not only Bibiche’s owner, but he is her trainer and handler at these events.

Brother Cinna and all of us at American Barbet are proud of you as well Jacques!! Keep up the good work. We can’t wait to see what Bibiche does next!

Shake it like a… Barbet?

I’ve been pretty preoccupied lately with weddings, house work, and heaps of life so it’s been hard for me to focus on blogging. Well, these last couple weeks as you’ll see in previous posts, we’ve been taking Isis and now Cleo out to the lake in Columbus, Indiana for dock dogs practice. Isis is becoming stronger and stronger in her swimming, and my sweet Cleo is somewhat jumping in after the toy.

This last visit I brought my new 70-200 NR II Nikkor lens as to practice high speed photography. My French Water Dogs aka Barbet Cleo and Isis did not disappoint with the myriad of photo opportunities they presented me. The ones I will share right now are my particular favorites as to see a dog shake in slow motion is priceless. Below you can enjoy Barbet Cleo getting her shake on.
