Barbet Bibiche brings the new year in with a bird

One of my favorite Barbet, Bibiche (Cinna’s sister) whom lives in Quebec, is shown on the video below bringing a bird in. The Barbet is really a multi faceted breed as in a litter you can have a puppy that will excel at therapy dogs, dock dogs, rally, agility, confirmation, to flushing/retrieving birds. This video is a great example of how it is really important, when considering a Barbet puppy, the breeder works with you placing the dog based on what your family dynamics and goals for the Barbet are.

Barbet Lia welcomes us home

After photographing a gorgeous Appalachian whimsical wedding in Andrews, North Carolina, we couldn’t wait to get home and pick up our Barbet Lia, who was staying at our in laws. Knowing how excited she’d be we had our flip video on deck to capture her glee.

My Barbet bunk mate in Zeist, Holland, Alba, has been ever so fun to get to know and love. She is your typical happy, funny, sweet, smart Barbet (French Water Dog) owned by my dear friend Anne Plomp. This morning I woke up to Alba next to me snoozing away happily. I return home to America today (July 19th) but I will fondly remember my time in the Netherlands with Alba, Anne, and Wouter and can not wait to return hopefully for better weather and bicycle riding.

This morning is raining again so in order to keep Alba dry, Anne put a rain coat on her. Well in typical Barbet fashion, Alba had to have a little anti-rain coat Frap (frantic running and playing) and I was able to catch a video snip it of her. Towards the end of the video Alba even fluffs up my bed.

We began lightly teaching our Barbet puppies to be interested in bird wings at 6 weeks. Several of them were fascinated by the wings and couldn’t get enough of them. SO amazing to see natural instincts at that young age. When we did our Volhard temperament/personality testing at 7 weeks one puppy even retrieved!!

The Last Barbet Puppy

Bronx is with us until Mid-June as his owners are moving so to make it easier on them we’ll have him hang with us in Indiana/American Barbet central. He has been such a sweet little guy and for the most part we have him in the house with us and the other Barbet. Here you’ll see him playing with Lia for a lengthy 3 minutes. I also have to mention how nice it is to keep a pup for a little longer as the others left at 8 weeks and Walter and I were both in tears.

Our April 2011 Barbet litter we wanted to socialize the Barbet puppies with bird wings as they are flushing/bird dogs. Many of our pups took to the bird right away and followed it across the yard, watched the wing as we held it above their heads, and one even retrieved the wing!
