Barbet in America: Cleo’s puppies are 8 weeks old

Time always passes too quickly when raising Barbet puppies. It feels like yesterday these beauties were born on Thanksgiving… now they are 8 weeks old and will slowly begin to make their way to their new families. Luckily, the families will slow trickle this way these next 3-4 weeks. The Barbet puppies will go every where from Colorado to Louisiana to Brooklyn. Walter and I are thrilled to be able to bring joy to the 11 new families, but are also sad to see them go. Luckily, we have Cleo, Isis, Cinna, and Lia ready to take any attention.

Before they all go, I had to attempt a photo of all of our Barbet puppies together one last time.

Some think I’m goofy or perhaps naive, but to me it is better to be silly and happy in life then take things too seriously. Case in point are our Halloween costumes for our Barbet. Below Isis would like to wish you a very spooky Halloween and Fall season full of pumpkins…

Barbet puppy Bric in Wisconsin

Lynn has been really great about sending me photos of Barbet puppy Bric. He has been growing steadily and is now up to 29 pounds. Bric lives really close to his sister, Bella, so the two get to Barbet romp frequently. The below photo really reminds me of Cinna and the Barbochos line. Thank you Lynn for brightening my day with updates!

How to Measure Your Barbet – Isis

Following Cleo’s measurements we took Isis’s. Below are her numbers– feel free to order her a Doggy Tux as I’d love to photograph her in one.

Isis Measurements in Inches

A. tip of nose to stop: 3.5

B. From stop to ociput: 5

C. Length of ear from onset to lowest point (only the ear itself, not the hair): 5.5

D. Neck from the skull to the shoulders: 6

E. Circumference of the neck: 15.5

F. Height at the withers, from the shoulder blade to the ground: 21.25

G. Length of front leg from elbow to the ground: 11.25

H. Depth of the brisket: 26

I. Length of the body from the foremost point of the shoulder blade to the furthest end of the pelvic
bone: 24.5

J. Hind leg from the uppermost point of the pelvic bone to the hock: 14.5

K. Hock: 6

L. Length of tail from onset to end: 11

hat a great shot! All Barbet lined up, sitting, and LOOKING at the camera! It’s a pretty hard feat to get even 1 dog to look at a camera but all of them. Kudos to Alex and Greet of http://www.quaciendas.nl/in the Netherlands.

While at the Elora Gorge show in Canada, there were several news folks around taking photos and Tracey of twosistersbarbet.com found a photo of Cinna and I a photojournalist took.

Barbet Harry at Day Care

Harry, who is a spitting image of his father, Cinna, resides in Seattle and attends doggy day care from time to time. His owner, Carolynn, reports that Harry is enjoying daycare and gets excited as they approach the grounds. The day care also provides a “doggy report card” and Carolynn reports Harry often gets a “Restful behavior during quiet time = Teacher’s Pet.” Most of the other categories get him a “Follows Instructions” or “Wags Tail Alot.”

My Barbet Twin: The Friendly Barbet Frankie + Stacy

While up in Canada for the Elora Gorge Dog show, I had the pleasure of getting to visit The Friendly Barbet central. While I met Frankie at the dog show, I really was able to sit down and visit with Chris and Ula’s gorgeous puppies.

As we visited every Barbet came up for some love. Frankie, too came up and sat with me for a bit. Ula took a photo and I think Cinna has some competition in being my Barbet/Dog twin.
