Barbet Cinna is a CKC Champion

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Great news from Paula with Biscay Water Dogs in Ontario, Canada. Cinna di Barbochos Reiau de Prouvenco, aka Cinna, has been comfirmed as one of the TOP FIVE Barbet in Canada for 2009. A great honor for hi in the confirmation shows of Canada. Granted competition is around 130 Barbet in Canada but what a great honor none the less.

I must mention that Paula’s daughter, Amy Ballak did the handling and showing of Cinna. She’s a champ and makes the dogs look and act like pros. If any of you know Cinna, you’ll understand he is the most lovable guy but would much prefer to play, yet Amy is able to whip him into show dog shape. Amy you are the best!

Another huge thank you to Paula whom without her help Cinna would just be another American Barbet without huge ribbons and free dog food. The Ballak clan really goes above and beyond for the Barbet.

Happy 6 month Birthday Biscay Pups!

Monday, March 29th, 2010

It’s been 6 months since the beautiful Biscay Water Dog puppies were born in Canada. The parents, Bonnie x Anton produced the most gorgeous litter which live all over Canada and some in America. I am the proud owner of two: Cleo and Isis. They bring such joy to our lives with their deep brown barbet eyes and happy tail wags. I call them my baby bears as they are so healthy and strong.

Here is a recent photo of Isis our black baby bear Barbet.

Pat Hastings Seminar : Barbet

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Paula of Biscay Water Dogs, Ula of The Friendly Barbet, and Me (Stacy Able) of American Barbet joined together in Ohio in October to attend a Pat Hastings seminar on dog structure. Sounds mundane but in the breeding world it was a very important lecture with knowledge essential in improving the Barbet in North America.

Days before the seminar Pat’s assistant emailed Paula and I asking if we knew of anyone with a 8 week old litter. Happened Paula had one that was 7-8 weeks old so the intrepid Canadians drove down 8 puppies to get an evaluation by Pat Hasting. The finding were stunning and really opened up our eyes in viewing puppies structures. I won’t bore you with the details, rather I’ll show you photos of Pat evaluating puppies along with Paula and Ula’s visit to our home in Indiana.

Barbet in the Snow

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Life with a Barbet especially when it is snowy outside is so much fun. The Babret really enjoys the white powdery stuff. All the Barbet I have witnessed in the snow have this puppy reaction to it. They go outside, sniff, eat, lick, and roll in it. With their “barbe” (beard in French), they will collect an abominable snow face. If left outside for awhile the Barbet will develop what I like to call “snow locks” which are snow like dread-locks. They don’t harm the dog as the easily thaw out.

Here are some photos of Francie living in Illinois, approximately 13 weeks of age from Biscay Water Dogs in Canada. She is having a good ól snowy time with her sister, Ming, a Japanese Chin.

Ciro Cleans Up!

Ciro Cleans Up!

Cirocco, owned by Paula Ballak in Canada, was shown by the wonderful up and coming handler Amy Ballak, and cleaned up at the Elora Gorge show during December 27-29, 2008. Cinna de Barbochos had no chance against this seasons champion! Good show! Ciro’s career is just starting as he is around 18 months of age. Can’t wait to see what else he wins!
