An example of Barbet hair: Cleo at full coat

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

I love the Barbet… more then people sometimes as they are always happy, goofy, and overall good members of the canine society. Cleo just returned from Canada as she was in a couple CKC shows, where the Barbet is fully accepted as well as where she was born. It’s been a good several weeks since I saw my baby girl last and her coat has GROWN! Dare I say she is the longest coated I’ve ever let any of my Barbet get. Of course I had to snap some photos of her smiling long locked face. Harder to see her eyes, but trust me she has the most stunning honey brown with green flecked eyes a girl could have.

Happy to have my baby home :) Time to get her in the water with her sister, Isis.

Barbet love leftovers

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

It’s a pretty hectic month here in Indiana at American Barbet head quarters. I have 8 weddings coming up to photograph and a cookbook photography project which entails 100 recipes I have to cook, test, and photograph. Our happy Barbet clan is wondering what is going on with all the commotion in the kitchen and in my product photography studio. After the recipes have been photographed most of the food is given to neighbors but some recipes the dogs get to taste test. A recipe for Tapioca was the latest devoured by our crew. Here you can see Barbet Lia head first in the pan.

Barbet on traditional 120 Film

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

You may or may not know but I am a Indianapolis Wedding and Pet Photographer that lives with 4 beautiful Barbet in southern Indiana. I started American Barbet 3 years ago to help North Americans learn about this beautiful breed (in English). Through the years more websites and blogs have emerged about the Barbet. My focus has been mostly photos and some fun tidbits of information.

To photo-nerd-out I recently had developed photos I took of my Barbet with a Contax 645 on 120mm film. In the days of digital camera, iphone, etc I wanted to go back to the basics and learn the fundamentals of film. Just look below at the amazing quality of film.

Ashley von der Leibrücke and Quaciendas Chouffe are expecting a litter at the end of August!

Walda and Henk have been fortunate to have the Barbet with the white and black markings. Perhaps there will be another in this litter making in 3 in a row which the from the long line of Barbochos Reiau de Prouvenco. Wish it wasn’t so far away as I’d love to see those babies and photograph them of course. Maybe one day soon in the future!

Barbet Cleo is in Canada with Rocket

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

My girl Cleo is up in Canada with her Nana, Paula. She’s getting to play and romp with her mom and cousins. I have to admit I can’t wait until I get my girl back but scheduling has proven to be difficult, but I know she’s in good hands!

Here is a video of the Biscay Water Dog clan romping in the yard. Notice the red curly mop that is Cleo taking down Rocket who was recently imported from France.

David Dalton is a well known animal photographer in Europe. He has photographed several Barbet owner’s dogs and this time he visited the Von der Leibrücke Kennel to get some AMAZING shots of Walda and Henk’s Barbet beauties.

One day I hope to have a Walda puppy of my own. For now I will live through her beautiful photos.

French Barbet arrives in Canada

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Chris and Ula (thefriendlybarbet.com) just welcomed home Frankie, to their beautiful Barbet family in Canada. Her full name is Frankly Scarlet de la Serve de la Chapelle D’Alexandre and she was bred by Elaine in France (http://chiensdeau.free.fr/BarbetenBresse/)

Via Ula: “Everything went great with my trip to France to meet and greet the new girl to add to our Barbet family. The flight home was smooth gliding and couldn’t have gone any better at the Toronto airport. Our warmest regards to Elaine Fichter, the wonderful breeder of our new pup and Brigitte Raoux the amazing lady whom took care of Frankie and trained her to be the wonderful dog she is today!!! ….Our baby girl is already obediently trained, a swimmer and retriever in the water….”

Barbet Lia and Isis Chomp on Toys

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Here is a short video of Barbet (French water dog) Isis from Paula Ballak (Biscaywaterdogs.com) whom I work with in breeding. Paula also helps in showing Cleo, Isis, and Cinna at the CKC. She even championed Cinna at the CKC!!

You can see (and hear) the demise of one Polar Bear toy. The sound inside the toys really drive the dogs nuts. We’ve gone through oh 5 hedgehogs, 2 polar bears, countless squeakier balls, etc. Ours love to pick up the hedgehog and whip their head around with the toy. I assume this is a natural dog instinct. We even see that in our 7 pound chihuahua, lola.

Here are some more photos of the wee little puppies born in Holland 8ish weeks ago to Quanciendas Aubey x Charly de la serve de la chapelle d’Alexandre, kennel name Von der Leibrücke www.vonderleibrucke.nl

All are doing well and many are off to their new homes. It’s amazing how fast the puppies grow in their 8 weeks of puppy-dom.

American Barbet Family Video

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Here is a short clip of my Barbet (American Barbet!) … you can see puppies Cleo and Isis and adults Cinna, Lia, and Dyna. It was taken awhile ago as Cleo and Isis are 8 months old and nearly full grown but it’s still a cute run through of my Barbet family here in Indiana.
