Barbet love leftovers

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

It’s a pretty hectic month here in Indiana at American Barbet head quarters. I have 8 weddings coming up to photograph and a cookbook photography project which entails 100 recipes I have to cook, test, and photograph. Our happy Barbet clan is wondering what is going on with all the commotion in the kitchen and in my product photography studio. After the recipes have been photographed most of the food is given to neighbors but some recipes the dogs get to taste test. A recipe for Tapioca was the latest devoured by our crew. Here you can see Barbet Lia head first in the pan.

Meet Stacy of American Barbet

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Those of you who read this and know me disgregard this post. For those just coming across the Barbet through the wonderful world wide web hello! My name is Stacy and I’ve been involved with the Barbet since 2006.  We’ve had two litters of Barbet and hope to have more in the future. American Barbet was created to share news of Barbet in America. I’m a photographer (www.stacyable.com) so often there are no photos of me WITH my barbet. The other night, I had my trusty husband, Walter take some quick shots in the setting sun with Lia and Isis.  Fun fact: I birthed Lia in 2009 and she has me wrapped around her white paw.

Barbet on traditional 120 Film

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

You may or may not know but I am a Indianapolis Wedding and Pet Photographer that lives with 4 beautiful Barbet in southern Indiana. I started American Barbet 3 years ago to help North Americans learn about this beautiful breed (in English). Through the years more websites and blogs have emerged about the Barbet. My focus has been mostly photos and some fun tidbits of information.

To photo-nerd-out I recently had developed photos I took of my Barbet with a Contax 645 on 120mm film. In the days of digital camera, iphone, etc I wanted to go back to the basics and learn the fundamentals of film. Just look below at the amazing quality of film.

Barbet in Snow-Merica

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

As you all know the States has been pummeled with snow these past couple of weeks. Here in Indiana we’ve gotten more snow then I’ve ever known in my life and it’s been a blast. We’ve taken the dogs sledding, snow Frisbee, and just romping through the continually falling snow.

Top 5 Tips to Photograph Barbet

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Barbet are wonderful, love able, SMART, great dogs. However photographing them can be another story. With all their hair curling/waving all over, often covering their eyes it can be downright impossible to get a good photo. Luckily today most people have digital cameras so people can shoot to their hearts content and delete just as liberally.

Below are some simple tips from me, Stacy Able Photography, who specializes in Weddings and Pet photography. I own 5 Barbet and know how frustrating it can be to get the focus correct. Black Barbet tend to be the most difficult to photograph but don’t give up. Try some of these tips below and email your Barbet photos to barbetfanciers@gmail.com or stacy@stacyable.com to submit to future calendars or blog posts.

1) Change angles
Get down on their level, shoot just their feet, tail, eyes, etc

2) Stick with natural light. Turn off or cover the on-camera flash
On-camera flashes flattens everything, cast harsh shadows, and gives pets green or red eyes

3) Stay out of direct sun, shoot in the morning or late afternoon
Bright mid day sun will create harsh shadows, late/early sun is flattering

4) Takes lots of shots
Pets are unpredictable (like children) so you never know how a shoot will go. Take lots of photos and delete the bad ones

5) Edit/Delete bad files
Show only your best work. People do not want to see 100 shots of Barbet fetching.

Below are some shots from Barbet Cleo’s first bath.. notice the different angles. I used a flash bounced off the wall next to me to create a natural light source.

Photo Time Again

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Some fun photos of Amelia and Cinna. Please send your Barbet photos and news and they’ll be posted!

And then there were two

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

It has been a revolving door the past week with puppy families coming to pick up their bundle of barbet joy. I am down to two awaiting the Virginia family to pick up their Ginkgo de Xelaju Avila on Saturday and of course I’ll be keeping Amelia.

The first photo is not a white barbet, but my mom’s Maltese who came to visit, next is violet on our couch basking in puppy’s are almost gone glory, then there is the wonderful family Barret/White who own Ginkgo de Xelaju Ariel aka Olive, and last but certainly not least, Carolynn who flew from Seattle, Washington to pick up Mr. Ginkgo de Xelaju Aristotle aka Harry.
